Private Healthcare Advocacy
The healthcare system can be confusing and scary. It is getting more and more confusing by the minute. To assist with maneuvering through the red tape of the healthcare system and to offer support while accessing healthcare services, FLW Living Well Services offers private healthcare advocacy services. Even the most informed patients have a difficult time deciphering what changes in the system will or will not benefit them and how to access the system itself. Working on behalf of the patient, healthcare advocates use their own extensive healthcare expertise to promote the best interests of patients in various settings, i.e., clinics, doctor’s offices, hospitals, etc. Services are available in the setting itself or at your home or business. We come to you.
Private Healthcare Advocacy services include:
- Psychosocial evaluation and assistance with adaptation to medical and psychosocial issues
- Accompaniment to appointments to advocate and/or assist with understanding medical condition, treatment plan and options, and prognosis
- Counseling, direct clinical services and crisis intervention in order to assist in resolving psychosocial issues
Note: Clients and/or patients with advanced mental health needs will receive referrals to licensed mental health professionals. Clients will be assessed to determine whether or not it would be more appropriate for an internal or external referral for psychotherapy services.
- Information and referral directing clients and/or patients to resources in the community
- Coordinate or provide case management services to identified clients or patients
- Assist with discharge plans from hospitals and skilled nursing facilities
Individual Support & Support Groups for Health Diagnoses/Sensitive Issues
Services are also provided to individuals and their support system dealing with the psychological affects of health diagnoses and other sensitive issues whether it is directly related to self, a family member, or a friend. These services include:
-
Individual support and/or support groups for clients with mild to chronic medical conditions
-
Individual support and/or support groups for survivors of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence
-
Individual support and/or support groups for survivors of Community Violence whether direct or indirect
Statistics prove that many Domestic Violence Survivors do not leave their Batterer immediately and sometimes maintain their abusive relationship. FLW Living Well Services believes that if the true goal for the non-violent relationship treatment community and providers is to assist with developing healthy relationships, openness to seek assistance for both the survivor and the batterer is necessary. The Domestic Violence Survivor may need basic to extensive support services and the Batterer must learn to deal and manage his/her anger. Therefore, in separate sessions, services are available for the survivor and the batterer:
-
Domestic Violence Support Groups or individual support
-
Anger Management
-
52 week Batterer’s Intervention Program (Referral only at this time. Coming through FLW Living Well Services in the near future.)
Note: Neither individual support nor support groups are psychotherapy sessions. They are facilitated by a Mastered-level Social Worker using a psycho-educational, empowering and/or peer support technique. Clients needing individual psychotherapy will receive referrals to licensed mental health professionals. Clients will be assessed to determine whether or not it would be more appropriate for an internal or external referral for psychotherapy services.
