Fredericka (Ricka) L. White-Soso, MSW, an Oakland native, is a professional Social Worker, whose special interests are community health issues, foster youth advocacy, and public service.  She has been working in the social services field paraprofessional to professionally for the past 18 years.  Her work in earlier years as a group home counselor moved her to further her education, which lead her to the work in county and not for profit hospitals.  From sun up to sun down, Mrs. White-Soso is a Social Worker.  Always looking for resources for her clients, Ricka prides herself in having a grand repertoire of information regarding services as well as connections to agencies and providers due to her extensive work history in the helping field.  In 2001, Mrs. White-Soso founded FLW Living Well Services.

Ricka’s extensive work with diverse populations makes her sensitive to the needs of her clients and her community.  Being a professionally trained Social Worker, she has the skills of an administrator, community organizer, and planner.  She believes in and uses grassroots networking techniques in her everyday practice of resource seeking.

Having experience in a busy city Emergency Room/Trauma Center, as a Medical (Clinical) Social Worker, she has seen the daily trials of the indigent, low income and working class patient.  Ricka commits herself to connecting her patients and/or clients to the appropriate community resources to assist them with understanding their medical condition, treatment plan and options while focusing on improving their quality of life. 

Staying true to the premise that one cannot change their community unless they get involved in it, Mrs. White-Soso continues to seek opportunities to serve her community – locally, regionally, and nationally. She has served as a Public Ethics Commissioner for the City of Oakland.  She is the immediate past Region C Director of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).   She maintains membership in professional organizations that promote high professional standards, integrity, and social justice. 

She has served on various community organizations boards.  Ricka is a Critical Mass Health Conductor through the Bay Area United Fund promoting overall health of her community. Lastly, she is also a proud Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. an internationally recognized organization that provides public service to the community.  In her local chapter, she has served as the Summit VI & Healthy Lifestyle Change Initiatives Committee Chair.

A graduate of San Francisco State University, Ricka received her BA in Psychology and a Master in Social Work with an emphasis in Administration and Planning.
